Those are the boring facts which don’t do much to capture my frame of mind or how I work. Even before I completed my hypnosis studies in 2006, I had been in the business of helping people solve their problems. In fact, I can remember doing just that since I was about 9. My grandma complained about my grandpa, and there I was, helping her figure out her feelings. By the time I was 13, I had already read so many self-help books (the only genre I actually ever read), that I wrote my own little 40-page booklet using my dad’s typewriter and fixing the typos with liquid paper. If I have the pleasure of having you as a guest, I will be very happy to show you that old typewriter. It looks like an old relic.

I come from Mexico City, and I was raised surrounded by an extended family that got together very frequently. Analyzing my family’s behavior became second nature to me very early in life.  I analyzed not only their individual behaviors but also the games they would play with other family members to get their way.

Their games became predictable, and over time I learned how to play them, too. I had a little cousin who would bother me non-stop. I would snap at him, he would cry his lungs out and tell on me to his mom (my aunt). She would assume he was just hungry, and in less than 10 minutes they’d be gone. It happened over and over. I already knew what to do to get the outcome I wanted. Being the oldest cousin, I was left to my own devices to deal with the countless little cousins who loved “hanging out” with the older one.  His mom and my other aunts never believed that I would snap at my little cousins; the adults in my life thought I was an angel.

I was so into people’s behavior that when the time to choose a college program came, I knew that I was going to be a psychologist.  My loving extended family screamed themselves blue. “You are already a psychologist! You need to be practical!”

So, I studied….. Accounting. Yes, I know. Don’t try to make sense of it. I still haven’t.  Having that business background helped me keep up with the conversations around me, but besides that, I never stopped being the psychologist I was and I have always been.

All I can tell you is this: I love what I do. I’ve been talking to people at a deep level all my life. I know about insecurities, about feelings of worthlessness, about passive-aggressive behaviors, about low self-esteem, about relationship issues, about manipulation, about deceiving. If you asked me what is the most beautiful and complicated thing on the planet, without a doubt I’d tell you:

The human mind.
